Inside the Wild Launch of Jeremy Corbyn’s ‘Your Party’

On Friday, the day before the conference, the former Labour leader, suspended from the party by current Prime Minister Keir Starmer over his response to a damning report on antisemitism, attended a group meeting at Paul’s Place, a nonprofit set up to support people bereaved by suicide.

Corbyn, now 76, has always valued grassroots and community action over national politics. After the meeting, attendees were encouraged to pick from plates of cheese and crackers. Three individuals, all Your Party members, described Corbyn as the best prime minister they “never had.”

In the ACC, others appeared more skeptical. Conference attendees were handed leaflets describing Corbyn’s politics as an “old, cowardly, rotten left-social democratic alliance.”

“I’m not interested in Jeremy Corbyn or Zarah Sultana,” said attendee Julian. “I’m interested in how policy is made, how legislation is developed to address everything from Grenfell tower murders to climate change, whatever it is. And people have to get together and organize.”

As debates continued in the main hall and energy levels waned, chairs sometimes struggled to maintain peace. Debate chair Aghileh Djafari-Marbini was booed when she tried to instill order. “I’m not scared of you,” she said to those trying to shout her down. “As a child, I used to visit my father in the notorious Evin Prison. I am not scared of you. You do not scare me.”

What’s in a name?

One thing settled at Your Party’s conference was a proper name for the outfit, although it has a distinctly familiar ring.

Typical, innit? A meeting about grief turns into a cheese and cracker soirée with the best PM we never had – looks like the only thing getting a workout here is the cheese platter. 🧀🥴

  2. Oh, the irony! A party called “Your Party” where the only thing on the menu seems to be cheese and crackers—sounds like a right feast for the politically famished. 🍷🥴

Lovely to see a gathering where everyone can nibble on cheese while discussing how to resurrect a party that’s more like a ghost story at this point. Who knew grassroots politics came with a side of crackers? 🧀😂

  4. Looks like Corbyn’s ‘Your Party’ is just the latest installment in the never-ending British soap opera of politics—where the cheese platter gets more action than the policies. 🍷🧀 Who needs a coherent agenda when you can have a nostalgic cheese feast and a fan club for the PM who never was? Cheers to that!

  5. Seems like Corbyn’s ‘Your Party’ is the latest in a long line of “best kept secrets” that no one actually wants to discover. Cheese and crackers as a political platform? Now that’s what I call a gourmet approach to governance! 🧀🍷

Fantastic! A meeting about a party no one really wants to join, with cheese and crackers instead of actual policies. Who needs a prime minister when you’ve got a cheese platter, eh? 🧀🤣

Brilliant to see the “Your Party” launching with all the vigor of a damp sponge—cheese and crackers, who could resist such political depth? 🍽️ Meanwhile, the “best prime minister never had” title sounds like a fancy way of saying “not quite qualified for anything.” 😂

Blimey, the only thing more outdated than Corbyn’s politics is the cheese and crackers at that meeting—perfect for a party no one asked for! 🧀🍷 At least they’re keeping the spirit of “never had” alive, eh?

  9. Just what we needed, another party with a name that sounds like a discount store’s clearance sale. 🍷🥳 Hope they serve more than just cheese and crackers, or it’s going to be a quieter affair than a London bus on a Sunday!

  10. Blimey, nothing says “new beginnings” quite like a cheese platter and a room full of folks reminiscing about the “best PM we never had” – how very avant-garde! 🧀✨ Sounds like a proper laugh at a funeral, innit?
