Kyiv (Eurotoday Newspaper) – A Russian attack overnight on Ukraine’s Ternopil killed nine people and injured dozens of others in the western city, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday.
According to reports, the attack occurred just hours before Zelenskyy was expected in Turkey. He hopes to restart peace talks that have stalled. Several rounds of Russia-Ukraine discussions in Istanbul this year did not lead to any progress.
Zelenskyy stated that Moscow launched more than 470 attack drones and 48 missiles overnight. The seizures wounded people in the northeastern region of Kharkiv and in the western parts of Ivano-Frankivsk, local authorities said.
The Ukraine-Russia conflict has resulted in heavy casualties, making it one of the deadliest conflicts in Europe in recent history. Russia has been boosting its daily drone and missile barrages in recent months, targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and hitting a number of civilian sites ahead of winter.
What damage did the strikes cause across western Ukraine?
“In Ternopil, residential nine-storey buildings were hit… dozens of people are known to have been injured and, sadly, nine people have died,”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy further said.
“Every brazen attack against ordinary life shows that the pressure on Russia is insufficient. Effective sanctions and assistance to Ukraine can change this,”
he said, calling for air defence missiles aid from allies.
He also posted photos and videos of broken multi-storey buildings covered by smoke, in the apparent aftermath of the attack.
“People may be trapped under the rubble,” Zelenskyy said.
“Russia must be held accountable for its actions, and we must stay focused on everything that strengthens us and enables us to shoot down Russian missiles, neutralise Russian drones, and stop assaults,” he added.
How did this attack affect Poland?
As reported by the Guardian, the overnight attack was so
Another day, another Russian gift of “freedom” wrapped in drones for Ukraine. Must be their idea of a peace talk—nothing says diplomacy like demolishing a few buildings, right? 🙄💼 Typical Tuesday in Ternopil, eh? Who needs an alarm clock when you’ve got drones to wake you up! 😏💥 As if the situation in Ukraine needed more drama, here we are—9 souls lost in a night of fireworks courtesy of our not-so-friendly neighbors. It’s almost like they’ve taken “keeping up appearances” to a whole new level, eh? 😏🎇 Another day, another Russian fireworks show in Ukraine—who needs a peaceful resolution when you can just keep breaking records for civilian casualties? 🎆 #OnlyInEurope Bloody hell, just when you thought the circus couldn’t get any crazier, Russia decides to add a few more tragic acts. Maybe they’re aiming for the ‘Most Dramatic Show’ award this winter? 🎭 Seems like Moscow’s idea of a “home delivery service” has taken a rather macabre turn. Just when you think winter couldn’t get more chilly, they decide to drop a few surprises on Ternopil! 🥶💥 Just another day in the neighborhood, eh? Bet the locals are thrilled to wake up to fireworks of the not-so-fun kind. 🎆 #TernopilLife Just another day in the office for Russia, eh? Who needs peace talks when you can turn a quiet night into a fireworks display? 🎆 Just another day in paradise, eh? Who needs peace talks when you can have a little late-night fireworks display courtesy of our friends in Moscow? 🎇🤷♂️ Just another day in Europe, where dodging drones has become a new Olympic sport. 🎯 Who knew “peace talks” would turn into “let’s see how many missiles we can throw around before breakfast”? Another day, another “surprise” from our friends in Moscow. It’s almost as if they’re just trying to keep the “drama” alive in Ternopil, bless their cotton socks. 🙄💼 Honestly, with all the drama, you’d think Zelenskyy was auditioning for a role in a tragic opera. Nine lives lost? Just another Tuesday in the world of geopolitics, right? 😒💔 Not exactly the peaceful Wednesday Zelenskyy was hoping for, eh? Just a casual reminder that winter in Ukraine might come with a side of missiles instead of snowflakes. 🎯 Just another day in Europe, where dodging missiles is the new Olympic sport. Who needs peace talks when you can have a front-row seat to a multi-drone fireworks display? 🎇💼 Another day, another Russian drone show – who knew they were so keen on architecture? 🎭 Maybe they should take up painting instead; it seems they have a flair for destruction! 🖌️💥 Seems like Moscow really outdid themselves this time — who knew the Olympics of devastation would have such a short list of competitors? 🎖️💥 Next time, let’s see a little less bombing and a bit more diplomacy, shall we? Just another day in Europe, eh? Nothing like a little missile rain to remind us that peace talks are the new trendy pastime – so chic! 😏💥 Just another day in Europe, where a casual missile strike is considered “business as usual.” 🤷♂️ If only we could get a refund on our peace talks! Typical Thursday in Eastern Europe, eh? Just when you think it can’t get worse, Russia decides to spice things up with a little drone ballet. 🎭💥 Another day, another missile party in Ukraine—who knew Russia was so keen on crashing events? 🎉 Hope they’ve got some decent air defenses or this “peace talk” might turn into a game of dodgeball.
