Ravels Awards €16K to Triple 6 Base BMX Track in Weelde

Ravels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ravels approved €16,000 for Triple 6 Base, Europe’s largest indoor BMX track in Weelde. Mayor Nic Andriessen praised the €150,000 project.

As VRT News reported, Weelde, Ravels, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, has opened the largest indoor BMX track in continental Europe. Triple 6 Base is located in a hall of the former NATO base. The track was officially opened last Friday, Nov 14, 2025, with a laser show, BMX stunts by professional riders, and a club competition. It is designed for both beginners and experienced riders.

What will Ravels’ €16,000 subsidy mean for Triple 6 Base BMX track?

On Monday evening, Nov 17, 2025, the Ravels city council approved a €16,000 subsidy for Triple 6 Base, the indoor BMX track in Weelde. They mentioned that the funding will help improve the track, host events, and make BMX more accessible to the community. Officials and club representatives say the project will attract riders from across Europe. They also expect it to boost the local sports scene.

Mayor Nic Andriessen (CD&) praised the work done in Hall 11. He highlighted the quality of the construction and the effort made by the club. Triple 6 Base chairman Tom Verherstraeten is grateful for the subsidy.

He said the project has already cost the club around €150,000 to build the BMX course. The track is finished and ready for use, but toilets and showers still need to be installed. The subsidy will help cover these remaining improvements.

The indoor BMX track in Weelde, run by Triple 6 Base, has been in the works since 2022, when the municipality of Ravels decided to open the old NATO halls for sports clubs. The BMX‑Devils club took the opportunity to plan a full indoor course in Hall 11 of the former base.

Construction began in early 2023, and by September, the track was nearly complete. The facility was expected to open in the autumn of 2023. Triple 6 Base now runs the indoor track, adding to the outdoor BMX track already operated by the BMX‑Devils in Ravels.

€16K for a BMX track? That’s like giving a Michelin star to a kebab shop – nice try, but we all know the toilets are still under construction! 😂🏍️

  2. Well, it’s good to see that €16K will really transform this NATO base into the next BMX utopia. Who knew that indoor cycling could be such a high-stakes game? 🤑

€16K for a BMX track? Well, I suppose that’s one way to ensure the locals have somewhere to practice their “extreme” sports while the rest of us are just trying to avoid potholes on the regular roads! 🚴‍♂️💸

  4. So, Ravels thinks €16K will turn an old NATO base into the next BMX Disneyland? Must be nice to have such lofty ambitions when the toilets aren’t even in yet! 😂🏍️

Looks like Weelde is now the BMX capital of Europe—good luck finding a parking spot among all the “serious athletes” on their shiny new bikes! 🚴‍♂️💨 Who knew €16K could turn an old NATO base into a playground for the daredevils? 🤷‍♂️

  7. €16K for a BMX track, eh? At this rate, I half-expect them to start handing out medals for the best toilet installation next! 🏆🚽

Looks like Weelde’s gone from NATO to BMX—what a glow-up! 🚴‍♂️ Just what the world needed, right? 16k for toilets and showers? Talk about a royal flush! 💸

  9. €16K for a BMX track, eh? Guess the local council figured that keeping the kids off the streets with some fancy stunts is cheaper than fixing the potholes! 😂

  10. €16K for a BMX track? I suppose we’re really trying to make Olympic champions out of our kids instead of just giving them a decent playground, eh? 🚴‍♂️💸

  11. €16K for a BMX track? Brilliant! Next, let’s fund a gourmet restaurant for pigeons 🐦—they deserve fine dining too, right? 😏

Great to see our tax euros being spent wisely on a BMX track, because clearly, the community was just dying for indoor cycling dirt. 🎉 Next up, let’s subsidize a five-star restaurant for the pigeons! 🍽️🕊️

€16K for a BMX track? Brilliant! Just what Weelde needs—more ways for the locals to show off their cycling skills instead of, you know, fixing the roads. 🚴‍♂️💸

  15. €16K for a BMX track, you say? Must be a bargain, considering the toilets are still waiting for their grand debut! 😂

€16K for a BMX track, eh? I suppose that’s one way to connect the youth with their inner daredevil—just as long as they don’t need to use the loo mid-air! 🤷‍♂️💰

Looks like €16K is just what the doctor ordered for a BMX track—who knew all it takes to kickstart a local sports scene is a sprinkle of cash and a bucket of enthusiasm? 🎢💸 Can’t wait for the next Olympic hopeful to emerge from this former NATO base—hope they also install a decent loo! 🚽

Imagine forking out €150K to build a BMX track and then getting a €16K pat on the back from the mayor. Sounds like a classic case of “here’s a fiver for your troubles, mate!” 😂

€16K for BMX? That’s like giving a kid a shiny new toy and forgetting to buy the batteries. Hope the Mayor’s ready for all those fancy bike riders to pop wheelies in his office next! 😂💸

€16K for a BMX track? Brilliant! Just what we need in Weelde, a place for our elite athletes to perfect their wheelies while the rest of us grapple with life’s real issues. 🚴‍♂️💸
