Budapest (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Hungary’s future is connected to the European Union, while also highlighting the need for urgent reforms within the bloc.
In an interview with Axel Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner, Orbán
“Hungary wants to reform the EU, but will never leave it, since it is part of Western Christian culture.”
Orbán states that the main focus of Hungary’s upcoming election is national sovereignty. He claims Brussels is financially supporting opposition groups and exerting economic pressure to influence Hungary’s internal politics.
How is Brussels allegedly influencing Hungary’s internal politics?
“The European Union is a danger on us. They are blackmailing us. They try to suffocate us economically and financially. So the main reason why I need a financial shield is because of the European Union, and against Brussels,”
he said, arguing that the EU has transitioned from a peace scheme to a “war project.”
What reforms does Orbán want to introduce within the EU?
He emphasized that sovereignty should continue to form the core of the European political system. According to him, the current EU structure does not adequately support its members, especially in Central Europe. He suggested establishing a new framework guided by “patriots” dedicated to defending national interests while fostering efficient cooperation.
Why does Orbán insist Hungary must control migration alone?
Regarding migration, Prime Minister Orbán emphasized that Hungary should keep the authority to determine who is allowed to enter and stay in the country.
“If you let in a large number of non-Christians into a Christian country, it will affect democracy,”
he warned. He also criticized Brussels for penalizing Hungary because it refused to accept illegal migrants, even though the government managed to stop irregular border crossings.
Why does orbán believe Trump and Putin both want peace?
Turning to the fighting in Ukraine, he stated,
“I think we are very close to having a peace.”
He emphasised that peace depends on a unified transatlantic stance and lamented the ongoing divide between the U.S. and the EU.
He also praised U.S. President Donald Trump’s approach:
“The American president is in favor of the peace. Europeans are not. What they are saying basically means that they would like to continue the war.”
He also stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is interested in peace.
The prime minister discussed energy, mentioning that Hungary obtained an

Talk about a masterclass in political gymnastics! 🎪 “We’ll stay in the EU, but only if we can turn it into our private playground” – classic Orbán, always keeping it *interesting*! 😏

Seems like Viktor’s got a new plan: stay in the EU but ask for a makeover at the same time. Classic Eastern European charm—who doesn’t love a bit of political flipping, eh? 😏

Isn’t it charming how Viktor’s committed to the EU while simultaneously calling it a “danger”? Quite the juggling act, eh? Maybe next he’ll propose a “leave the EU but keep the benefits” package! 😂

Isn’t it charming how Orbán insists on reforming the EU while clinging to it like a lifebuoy in a storm? Classic move, mate—like demanding a raise while enjoying the free coffee at the office. ☕💼

Looks like Viktor’s got a solid plan: reform the EU while holding onto his comfy seat at the table. Reminds me of a pub regular who wants to change the bar menu but won’t stop ordering his usual pint. 🍻

Isn’t it charming how Viktor wants to reform the EU while clinging to it like a kid to their teddy bear? I suppose sovereignty is just a fancy term for “let me do what I like, but keep the cash flow coming.” 😂

Seems like Viktor’s got a real knack for reforming while clinging to the EU like a toddler to its blankie. Quite the balancing act, eh? 🤡

Just what we need, another grand reform proposal from Viktor! Maybe he thinks the EU is his personal buffet—pick and choose what he likes while grumbling about the rest. 🥖🇭🇺

Seems like Orbán’s playing a real game of “let’s have our cake and eat it too” with the EU – reform it, but don’t you dare kick us out, eh? 🍰 And here I thought it was only the coffee in Budapest that was strong! 😂
-
Blimey, who knew reforming the EU was as easy as a Sunday stroll in Budapest? 🤔 I suppose next he’ll be suggesting a little cha-cha with Brussels over a pint! 🍻

Can’t wait for the reforms that’ll magically fix the EU while Hungary clings on tighter than a drunk tourist to a kebab at 3 AM. 🍻 Seems like a classic case of wanting the cake and eating it too, innit?

Oh, how charming! A love letter to the EU from Viktor, right after he called it a danger. It’s like asking the wolf to reform the henhouse while insisting it’s all about ‘national sovereignty’ – classic! 😂

Typical Viktor, always promising reforms while clutching the EU purse strings like a kid in a candy store 🍬. Who knew saving democracy meant negotiating with Brussels over a pint at the local pub? 🍻
-
Just what we need, a PM who wants to reform the EU while firmly clinging to it like a drunkard to a lamppost after the pub closes. 🤦♂️ But hey, at least he’s not planning a solo act, right?
-
Looks like Orbán’s decided he wants to stay in the EU circus while asking for a complete redesign of the tent—classic! 🤡 Good luck with that, mate; it’s not like they hand out blueprints for reform with your morning coffee! ☕️
