Macron urges Europeans to impede the Russian ghost fleet

Copenhagen – The French president urged Europe to take decisive action against the phantom fleet that enables Moscow to export oil while bypassing Western sanctions, following the seizure of one such vessel by France.

This statement was made during a summit of European leaders in Copenhagen.

The Chinese captain of the stateless oil tanker is set to face trial in February for “refusal to comply,” according to French judicial authorities.

Emmanuel Macron emphasized, “Increasing pressure on the phantom fleet is crucial as it significantly undermines Russia’s capacity to fund its military operations.”

He also announced that in the upcoming days, military leaders, in collaboration with NATO and the Coalition of Volunteers, will convene to strategize joint actions.

Concerns remain regarding the ship’s potential involvement in drone activities that interrupted air traffic in Denmark, where it was located during the incidents. (October 2, 2025)

Oh, fantastic, just what we needed—Macron playing ghostbusters while the real issues are lurking around like bad wine at a dinner party. 🍷 Let’s all gather ‘round, folks, and strategize our way to Europe’s next big adventure—who knew oil tankers could be so thrilling? 😂

Seems like Macron’s got his eyes on ghost ships now—next, he’ll be hunting down the Loch Ness monster for tax evasion! Maybe he thinks a little naval ghostbusting will distract from the real issues at home. 🛳️👻

Looks like Macron’s got a real ghost-busting mission on his hands—wonder if he’ll be wearing a proton pack to the summit! 🚢👻 Just what we need, a maritime mystery novel in the middle of a geopolitics thriller! 😂

Seems like Macron’s finally found his calling – Captain of the Phantom Fleet! 🚢 Maybe next he’ll try his hand at ghostbusting; at least then he’d get some results! 😂

Seems like Macron’s found a new ghost to chase—next he’ll be asking us to start hunting for unicorns too. 🦄 Can’t wait for the summit where they discuss the merits of catching shadows! 😂

Right, because what we really needed was a ghost story from Macron to spice up our European meetings – maybe next he’ll suggest we hire some ghostbusters to tackle those phantom ships. 🎃🚢

Look at Macron, the ghostbuster of oil tankers! Next, he’ll be summoning a fleet of French submarines to chase after them. 🐟🚢😂

  8. Of course, because if there’s one thing Europe excels at, it’s chasing ghosts instead of tackling real problems. Maybe Macron thinks he’s the next Van Helsing, but I’m not sure even he can slay this phantom fleet. 😏🚢

  9. Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed – a ghost fleet to add to our nightly horror stories, eh? 😏 Maybe next time we should just invite them for tea instead of chasing shadows! 🍵🚢

Just what we needed—Macron taking on ghost ships like a superhero in a poorly written drama! 🤦‍♂️ Next, he’ll be asking us to hunt down the Loch Ness Monster for good measure. 🐉

The EU’s Defense Initiative Lacks Strategy and Political Mandate

It is almost 30 years since the last collaborative defence initiative collapsed, leaving Europe’s military clout weaker than ever. The Saint-Malo agreement’s promises of ‘hard power’ proved a mirage, the European Defence Agency largely toothless, and the EU’s battlegroups more a paper army than a deployable force.
Today, Europe’s governments are committing hundreds of billions yearly to defence,
