Copenhagen – Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob stated that Slovenia’s threat level has not increased due to recent drone-related incidents in northern and eastern Europe. He pointed out that the country faces greater risks from natural disasters.
“Current assessments from our security services indicate that Slovenia’s threat level remains low. The incidents we have observed in northeastern Europe do not impact us,” Golob mentioned, referring to recent Russian drone incursions in Poland and Romania and incidents involving drones in Denmark.
He believes Slovenia is safe from eastern threats but acknowledges vulnerability to natural disasters, particularly in the Mediterranean region.
“We stand in solidarity with other European nations and expect their support when needed,” the Prime Minister remarked as he arrived for an informal EU summit in Denmark, which addressed European defense and ongoing support for Ukraine.
Golob added that the Slovenian government will advocate for an expanded security concept in the timeline aimed at enhancing EU defense readiness by 2030.
He also discussed the proposed new loan of 140 billion euros for Ukraine, which is suggested to be financed with Russian assets frozen under Western sanctions.
“Guarantees for this loan could only be provided if we receive assurances from international institutions, like the European Central Bank, regarding the legal viability of such a mechanism,” the Prime Minister clarified regarding Slovenia’s stance. (October 1)
