Bucharest – “Romania’s support is crucial for concluding the accession negotiations by 2028,” stated Moldovan Parliament President Igor Grosu during his visit to Bucharest on Wednesday.
During his trip to Romania, he held discussions with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Senate President Mircea Abrudean.
Grosu highlighted Romania’s significant backing for the Republic of Moldova’s European aspirations, while Bolojan reiterated Romania’s strong commitment to the country’s European integration and EU membership.
The talks also included an overview of Moldova’s political landscape following the recent parliamentary elections, which were won by the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) led by Igor Grosu.
Following the announcement of the election results, Romanian MEP Victor Negrescu, Vice-President of the European Parliament, remarked that the success of pro-European parties in Moldova sends a compelling message regarding EU accession, urging the Council to promptly initiate negotiations on the relevant chapters.
“As Vice-President of the European Parliament overseeing relations with Moldova, I assure Moldovans of our unwavering support. We can finalize accession negotiations with the EU by the end of 2028,” Negrescu affirmed.
The Republic of Moldova is currently a candidate for EU membership. (1.10.2025)
