MEP Diana Șoșoacă Accused of Breaking Romanian Election Law

Bucharest (Eurotoday) – Police investigate MEP Diana Șoșoacă for filming inside a voting booth and posting ballot images, violating election laws.

Bucharest Police officers have begun blank” rel=”noopener”>investigations after it was reported that MEP Diana Șoșoacă made a video inside the voting booth. Șoșoacă published several images of ballot papers to which her name was seen with a pen, over which the “Voted” stamp was applied.

Diana Iovanovici Șoșoacă is a Romanian lawyer, activist, and far-right MEP. Șoșoacă rose to a reputation as an anti-vaccine activist during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has served as an MEP for S.O.S. Romania since her victory in 2024.

As reported by Spotmedia, Romanian Capital Police stated:

The checks are being executed by police officers from the 6th Police Section, for the possible breach of the norms of art. 55 lit. m) connected to art. 56 para. (1) of Law no. 370/2004, regarding the photographing or filming by any means of the ballot paper and for taking the necessary legal measures.

She has also engaged in controversies such as suggesting that the EU Parliament should be “blessed” and “purified” by a priest. On the first day of the Strasbourg Plenary, Iovanovici Șoșoacă sported a muzzle over her face as a sign of conflict during Ursula von der Leyen’s opening address. Later, she loudly protested when French MEP Valérie Hayer recommended that abortion rights be included in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. After interrupting Hayer’s speech several times, she was accompanied outside the chamber.
