Kortrijk’s Quindo receives €250K to expand youth media programs

Kortrijk (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Kortrijk’s media lab Quindo will get €250,000 from Flemish Minister Melissa Depraetere over 5 years, aiding 150 volunteers to expand youth media programs across West Flanders.

As VRT News reported, the Kortrijk-based media lab Quindo will receive almost €250,000 in subsidies from the Flemish Government over the next 5 years. Flemish Minister of Youth Melissa Depraetere (Vooruit) announced which youth organisations will get additional support.

Alongside well-known groups such as Scouts, Chiro, KSA, and KLI, Quindo is among the West Flemish organisations to benefit. The funding will allow Quindo to continue its projects, expand its programs, and give more young people in West Flanders the chance to participate in media activities.

How will Kortrijk’s Quindo use €250K to expand youth media programs?

Quindo is a media lab where young people can create radio programs, podcasts, and other media projects on topics that interest them.

“Over the past 10 years, we’ve primarily focused on Kortrik,”

says coordinator Broos Claerhout.

“The goal is to be more active outside our studio and expand to other locations in West Flanders and East Flanders to offer young people there opportunities to work with media.”

Quindo is not the only West Flemish organisation to receive additional support. The artistic youth program Passerelle will also receive funding from Flanders. Passerelle provides workshops and projects that introduce young people to the arts and promote creativity, cultural participation, and personal development.

Quindo was founded in Kortrijk in 2000 as a media lab for young people, offering opportunities to create radio programs, podcasts, and other media projects. Over the years, it expanded its focus to include vulnerable youth, helping them develop confidence, skills, and career opportunities in media. By 2015, around 150 volunteers, including radio DJs, presenters, technicians, web designers, and camera operators, helped guide participants.

So, €250K for youth media programs, eh? Must be nice to have that much change just lying around while the rest of us are counting our pennies in the back of a taxi! 😂💰

Looks like Quindo’s got a nice little cash boost to teach the youth how to make media magic. Hope they don’t expect them to create anything resembling actual journalism—wouldn’t want to raise the bar too high, eh? 😏💸

€250K for youth media programs? Brilliant! Just what we need—more teenagers with microphones and opinions. 🎤🙄

€250K for youth media programs? That’s one way to keep the kids busy while we adults keep the real drama on the political stage. 🎭 Just hope they remember to keep the ‘youth’ in ‘youth media’ and not turn it into a reality show! 😂

Oh, €250K for youth media programs? Must be nice to have the budget for “expanding creativity” while the rest of us are just trying to expand our coffee breaks. ☕️😏

  6. Looks like the youth in West Flanders are about to get their hands full with €250K worth of media magic—let’s just hope they don’t turn into a bunch of mini-Germans demanding perfection! 🎤🙄

So, let me get this straight: we’re giving €250K to teach youth how to make podcasts while half the country still thinks TikTok is a brand of cheese? Brilliant use of funds, really! 😏💸

€250K for youth media programs? Brilliant! Just what we need—more teenagers talking about their feelings on podcasts instead of doing, you know, actual work. 🙄💰

So, they’re giving a quarter of a million to help the youth create, while the rest of us are still trying to figure out how to get the WiFi to work properly in our offices. Must be nice to have such *disposable income*! 😏💸

  10. Looks like the Flemish government really knows how to splash the cash—€250K for some kids to play with microphones! Who knew media programs were the new gold mine? 🎤💸
