Tehran (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – In response to US strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Washington and Israel decided to “blow up” diplomacy when they carried out strikes on his country’s nuclear sites.
Early Sunday, the US hit several key Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. In a White House address, US President Donald Trump asserted the sites were completely destroyed and cautioned the US could target more sites if Iran doesn’t make peace.
Why did Araghchi say diplomacy was blown up?
In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the US had decided to “blow up” diplomacy after its attacks on Iranian nuclear sites this morning.
“Last week, we were in negotiations with the US when Israel decided to blow up that diplomacy. This week, we held talks with the E3 (group of European ministers)/EU when the US decided to blow up that diplomacy,”
Araghchi said on X.
“To Britain and the EU High Rep, it is Iran which must ‘return’ to the table. But how can Iran return to something it never left, let alone blew up?”
he said.

What international laws does Iran claim were violated?
In an earlier post on X, Abbas Araghchi expressed that U.S. strikes on the country’s nuclear sites were a “grave violation” of international law and warned of “everlasting consequences” in reaction to the attacks.
“The United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, has committed a grave
