Pedro Pinto, a lawmaker from the far-right Chega party, alleged that a group of anti-Ventura protesters had tried to break into the hospital where party leader André Ventura was being treated, prompting the facility to implement heightened security measures. However, administrators at the Faro hospital denied these claims, stating that no such incidents had occurred during Ventura’s stay.
Doctors diagnosed Ventura with an esophageal spasm, a condition that causes intense stomach pain due to irregularities in the nerves controlling the muscles involved in swallowing.
After receiving treatment, Ventura was discharged within a few hours. However, he was hospitalized again shortly afterward in Setúbal, following a collapse during a campaign rally in Odemira.
Following this second brief hospitalization, Ventura told Portuguese media that doctors had advised him to “take a break.” A Chega party spokesperson later confirmed that he would not participate in the final campaign events ahead of Sunday’s vote.
Despite his absence from the campaign trail, Ventura delivered a defiant message from his hospital bed in a video shared on social media platform X, encouraging his supporters to continue pushing forward.
