EU Welcomes US-China Trade Agreement

Olaf Gill, the European Commission’s spokesperson for Trade, expressed appreciation for the recent announcement by the US and China indicating a temporary suspension of tariffs for 90 days. During a press conference, he was questioned about the implications of this agreement for Europe, particularly in the context of its own negotiations with the US.

Gill emphasized that the European Union has consistently maintained that the imposition of tariffs represents a retrogressive step in global trade and the economy. He stated, “We welcome any efforts that counter this trend, as they promote the smooth operation of global supply chains and enhance stability and predictability in trade and investments, provided that global regulatory frameworks are fully adhered to.”

Europe – US Negotiations

When queried about ongoing trade discussions between Europe and the US concerning tariffs, Gill reiterated that no announcements would be made at this time, as the negotiations are still in progress. He also addressed a question regarding the recent trade agreement between the US and the UK, noting that the European Commission is thoroughly analyzing the agreement. He assured that the EU will carefully evaluate its content and potential impacts, particularly in relation to EU interests and the broader global trade landscape. (12/5/25)

Oh, fantastic news! Finally, the US and China are playing nice—for 90 days, at least. 🤦‍♂️ Meanwhile, Europe’s still waiting for its turn at the kiddie table while we ‘analyze’ what that means for us. Cheers to global trade stability, right? 🍷

Oh, splendid, just what we needed—a 90-day tariff vacation! 🌍 Meanwhile, we Europeans are still waiting for our own negotiations to get off the ground; perhaps we should send in a postcard to remind them we’re here too! 🤷‍♂️✉️

Oh, splendid! Just what we needed—another round of trade agreements while we’re busy sorting out who gets the last croissant at the meeting. 🍵 Let’s hope this “temporary” peace lasts longer than a politician’s promise, eh? 😏

Oh, splendid! Just what we needed— a 90-day holiday from tariffs like a summer fling that might just turn into a long-term disaster. 🏖️ Meanwhile, Europe’s here with its suitcase packed, hoping for a ticket to the party that might never start. 🍷💼

Oh, fantastic! A 90-day tariff holiday—just long enough for us to polish our crystal balls and predict the next round of economic chaos. But hey, at least Olaf’s got his “smooth operation” speech ready for the next press conference! 🍻🤷‍♂️

Just what we needed, a three-month truce in a trade war – it’s like giving your ex a timeout during a breakup! 😂 Let’s hope Europe doesn’t get stuck waiting for the grown-ups to figure it out while we’re left with the kids’ table. 🍷
