Bruges May Fair Kicks Off with Thrilling 85m Mission Impossible Tower

Bruges (Eurotoday) – The May Fair (Meifoor) in Bruges kicked off on Friday with the debut of the impressive 85-meter Mission Impossible Tower by Piet Verwijk, drawing crowds with its exhilarating 90 km/h drop and energy-efficient lighting design.

According to VRT News, the Meifoor opened in Bruges on May 9, 2025, headlined by the new Mission Impossible Tower. Piet Verwijk, the ride’s creator, expressed satisfaction with the reception, stating,

“The reactions are very positive,”

He emphasized the ride as a major investment, noting it took two years to bring the attraction to life — a feat of both time and engineering. Designed for thrill-seekers, the ride lifts passengers 85 meters into the air — comparable to a 25-story building — before plunging them back down at speeds of 90 kilometres per hour.

How is the 85m Mission Impossible Tower changing Bruges’ skyline?

According to Verwijk, the Mission Impossible Tower features vivid, colorful lighting that makes it stand out at night. However, organizers have taken care to minimize energy consumption and avoid light pollution. “The lights are only on when the attraction is operating,” Verwijk explained. “We didn’t want them shining all night. The city made that clear, and we also wanted to be energy-conscious.”

The Mission Impossible Tower visibly alters the Bruges skyline — a city renowned for its medieval charm and historic architecture. Traditionally dominated by heritage landmarks such as the Church of Our Lady and the Belfry of Bruges, the skyline now temporarily includes the eye-catching tower during the fair’s run.

The Mission Impossible Tower is a key highlight of this year’s Meifoor, which offers a wide array of rides, games, and food options. The fair runs until June 1st, 2025, and the new attraction is proving to be a major draw for visitors.

Who knew Bruges needed a dose of high-speed thrills to complement its medieval charm? I suppose nothing says “historic city” quite like plummeting 85 meters at 90 km/h—cheers to progress! 🎢💨

  2. Oh joy, just what Bruges needed—an 85-meter tower to remind us that nothing screams “medieval charm” like a steel structure plummeting at 90 km/h! 🎢 Who knew the fair was missing a touch of *Mission Impossible* flair? 😂

Just what Bruges needed—an 85-meter tower of adrenaline to complement our quaint medieval charm. Perhaps next, they’ll install a rollercoaster around the Belfry for a full-on “historic thrill” experience! 🎢🤣
