BRUSSELS (ANP) – “I appreciate compliments,” the chairperson stated. “I had a productive discussion with President Trump, both through phone conversations and at the Pope’s funeral.” However, she emphasized that she would only visit the White House if a tangible trade tariff agreement is on the table for the EU to negotiate.
On Thursday, the Commission unveiled a new list of American products that will face import duties if negotiations with the U.S. regarding these tariffs fall apart.
The comprehensive list spans 218 pages and includes American goods valued at 95 billion euros.
It primarily features agricultural and industrial items, such as whiskey, motorcycle parts, and aircraft. Additionally, the American aerospace giant Boeing may be impacted, according to an EU insider. The Commission is also aiming to restrict EU exports of scrap steel and chemical products totaling 4.4 billion euros.
Notably, the list does not include pharmaceutical products or items that are challenging to source from other regions, as reported by a Commission source. Producers and other stakeholders can register objections to the list until June 10. “After all, we don’t want to harm our own interests,” the source added.
Several EU sources have indicated that negotiations are progressing slowly, primarily due to uncertainties about what the U.S. specifically seeks in return for reducing overall import tariffs.
