MIVB Enhances Metro Service for Belgian Football Cup Final

Brussels (Eurotoday) –
MIVB will boost metro line 6 service on Sunday, May 4, 2025, for the Belgian Cup final, with 40,000 fans expected to attend the match. Anderlecht supporters are advised to use Houba-Brugmann station, while Club Brugge fans should head to Heizel. Selected station entrances will be closed in the afternoon to manage the crowd.

Extra trains will run on metro line 6 from noon until the end of the service day to accommodate football fans traveling to and from King Baudouin Stadium. MIVB is also offering specific travel guidance to streamline movement and avoid congestion.

According to officials, Anderlecht fans should disembark at Houba-Brugmann station, while Club Brugge fans are directed to use Heizel station. To assist with crowd control, some entrances at multiple metro stations will be closed. At Heizel station, entrances 1 and 5 on Keizerin Charlottelaan will be shut down. At Koning Boudewijn station, entrance 2 on Amandelbomenlaan will be inaccessible to the public.

How will MIVB and police manage 40,000 fans on match day?

As the day progresses and more fans arrive, additional restrictions will be implemented starting at 7:30 PM. Koning Boudewijn station will be completely closed, and entrance 1 at Houba-Brugmann station on Houba de Strooperlaan will also be shut.

Authorities are implementing the entrance closures and enhanced metro services in stages to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all attendees. Fans are encouraged to follow all directions, arrive early, and pay attention to updated signage and public announcements throughout the day.

For those heading to King Baudouin Stadium via tram or bus, several options are available through MIVB, Brussels’ public transport network. Tram lines 7, 9, 51, and 93 all stop at Stadion, which is located conveniently near the venue.

Tram line 7 provides additional access, with stops at Eeuwfeest and Heizel—both within walking distance of the stadium. However, tram line 9 will not operate between Stadion and Koning Boudewijn from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, likely due to crowd control and traffic restrictions in the area.

Bus line 83 will be running throughout the day but will take an alternate route via Romeinsesteenweg. It will skip usual stops between De Hen and Paleis 12. Passengers using this line should disembark at the Panorama stop, which is located along the adjusted path and remains close to the venue. MIVB recommends fans avoid driving and use public transit instead.

Oh great, because nothing screams “smooth transport” like a metro service that suddenly becomes a sardine can on match day! 🐟 Just what we needed: a masterclass in crowd management from the folks who think a ‘queue’ is just a polite suggestion. 😂

Just what we needed—a metro system that treats football fans like VIPs for a day while we regular folk can only dream of such luxury! 🚇 Fancy a tram that stops working right when you need it most? Classic Brussels! 😏

Well, it’s fantastic to see MIVB preparing for the Cup Final like it’s the Olympics—who knew transporting a few rowdy fans could require such a grand operation? 🚆⚽️ Maybe they’re hoping to turn metro chaos into a spectator sport!

Oh, fantastic! Because nothing says “enjoyable day out” quite like being herded like sheep on a metro with 40,000 fellow footie fans. Can’t wait for the “extra” trains, just pray they don’t come with a complimentary sardine can experience! 😂🚌

Oh, brilliant! Nothing like enhancing the metro service for a football match that feels like a royal wedding—because who wouldn’t want to squish in like sardines with 40,000 other passionate fans just to see a ball kicked around? 🎉🚇

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “a smooth journey” quite like having 40,000 football fans crammed into a metro while half the stations play hide-and-seek. 🚇🙃 Hope they’ve stocked up on patience and a good ear for announcements!

Just what we need—more trains to ferry 40,000 fans while they try to figure out which entrance is open! 😅 If only they could offer a complimentary map for those who can’t read the signs… or maybe a degree in navigation! 🚇🗺️

Oh joy, nothing says “Sunday Funday” like a delightful game of musical chairs at the metro with 40,000 of your closest friends! 😅 Just remember, folks, if you get lost, feel free to ask a friendly policeman for directions—after all, they know all the best shortcuts to the closure and chaos! 🥳
