During her inaugural official trip to Tirana, Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, took part in the launch of the first session of the Security and Defense Dialogue. This dialogue is part of the Security and Defense Partnership established between Albania and the EU in December 2024.
In her opening remarks, Albanian Minister Hasani highlighted how this partnership has facilitated closer cooperation and dialogue on security and defense matters between Albania and the EU.
“Today marks the transition from vision to tangible action. For a nation like Albania, which is fully aligned with and committed to the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, this document signifies our joint dedication to working more collaboratively in tackling the complex challenges of our times. It also underscores Albania’s progress towards EU integration and the crucial role we are emerging to play in Europe’s collective security framework,” stated Minister Hasani.
Hasani further emphasized Albania’s support for initiatives that enhance Europe’s capacity to act independently and confront global challenges, while maintaining close coordination with transatlantic partners.
The Security and Defense Dialogue represents the first of several sessions aimed at defining the collaborative efforts of Albania and the EU in addressing contemporary challenges that cross borders and necessitate collective responses.
This partnership with the European Union extends to the Albanian government’s commitment to counter hybrid threats and combat information manipulation by foreign entities.
Prior to the dialogue, Kaja Kallas also held a bilateral meeting with Igli Hasani, the Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. (April 9)
