Ghent (Eurotoday) – A collision between a bus and a tram near Ghent Zuid at approximately 11:00 a.m. left five people injured, while significantly disrupting local public transport. Public transit operator De Lijn confirmed that both drivers involved were left shaken by the incident.
The crash occurred mid-morning in the heart of Ghent, injuring three passengers on the bus and two on the tram. Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene and transported the injured individuals to the hospital for treatment. While neither the bus driver nor the tram driver sustained physical injuries, both were visibly distressed.
“The two drivers were physically unharmed, but they are both very impressed,”
De Lijn spokeswoman Ine Pieters confirmed in a statement.
How did the Ghent Zuid crash affect city transport?
The crash brought significant disruption to Ghent’s public transport network. Service at the Ghent Zuid stop was completely halted due to the damaged vehicles blocking access. Multiple bus routes were forced to adjust their paths to avoid the crash site, leading to widespread delays across the system.
Authorities noted that tram services in the area also came to a standstill, further complicating travel for commuters in and around the city. The stoppage had a considerable impact on mobility for many residents and visitors relying on public transportation during the busy midday period.

Just another day in Ghent, where public transport takes a dramatic turn and the drivers leave with more than just a traffic ticket—like a newfound respect for life! 🚍💥 Maybe next time they’ll just stick to a nice stroll instead? 😏

Oh, brilliant! Just what Ghent needed—an unplanned tram-bus tango to spice up the morning commute. 🚍💥 Next time, maybe a nice cuppa instead of a collision, eh? 😏
