A newcomer to politics will soon be leading Serbia, as an endocrinologist with no prior political experience has been nominated to serve as the country’s next prime minister. The incoming PM is expected to remain in office until at least 2027, when Serbia is scheduled to hold both parliamentary and presidential elections. Parliament must approve the nomination by April 18; failure to do so could trigger snap elections.
Meanwhile, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in the near future. One of the key discussion points will be the recent imposition of tariffs on Serbian goods.
On April 2, as part of a broader campaign of trade levies, President Trump unveiled a 38 percent tariff on imports from Serbia — the steepest of any country in Europe. The tariffs are set to come into effect later this week. However, certain overseas territories of European nations may face even higher rates.
