Belgium Sunday Forecast: Sunny with Cool Easterly Winds, Temperatures Between 7–14°C

Belgium – The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) forecasts sunny weather for Sunday, accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperatures ranging between 7°C and 14°C, made more uncomfortable by a brisk easterly wind.

According to the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium, Sunday will be bright but chilly. Temperatures will vary, with the High Ardennes expected to be the coldest at around 7°C. Elsewhere, in regions such as Brussels and Flanders, temperatures are anticipated to stay between 12°C and 14°C. While the skies will remain clear, the easterly wind could reach speeds of up to 50 km/h in certain areas, making the day feel colder than it is.

What’s driving Belgium’s cooler and windy weather this weekend?

Belgium’s climate is heavily influenced by maritime weather patterns, often shaped by Atlantic storm systems. This Sunday’s cool and breezy conditions are the result of an easterly air flow from continental Europe, bringing in dry but chilly air masses. Historical data from the RMI shows typical early spring temperatures in Belgium ranging between 8°C and 15°C, which aligns with this weekend’s forecast.

Generally, wind speeds across inland Belgium range from 15 to 30 km/h. However, gusts exceeding 50 km/h are expected in southern areas—conditions that occur roughly 10 to 15 times per year, particularly when high-pressure systems from Scandinavia or low-pressure zones from the British Isles are present. The Ardennes’ higher elevation contributes to its lower springtime temperatures compared to the rest of the country.

Over the past century, long-term RMI climate records show a gradual temperature increase of approximately 1.5°C during the spring months. Despite this trend, short bursts of colder weather remain common in Belgium from March to early April. This Sunday’s weather is consistent with seasonal norms, which include around 14 dry days in March and limited rainfall when easterly winds dominate. Although wind speeds may reach up to 70 km/h, they are not strong enough to prompt significant weather alerts or cause major disruptions.
