Brussels – Austria’s newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Andreas Babler (SPÖ), made his first official visit to EU institutions in Brussels on Wednesday. During his visit, he met with Teresa Ribera, the Vice President of the European Commission, to discuss strategies for the development of industry in Europe and Austria. In a separate meeting with Culture Commissioner Glenn Micallef, Babler highlighted the significance of the “Creative Europe” cultural program.
As a guest speaker before the Social Democratic and Progressive Alliance (S&D) parliamentary group, Babler underscored the critical role of social democracy in countering the rise of authoritarian regimes throughout Europe. He argued that a “European counter-model” should not merely focus on defending the EU as a single market, but instead aim to transform the EU into a Union dedicated to social justice, he emphasized.
