ZAGREB, March 28, 2025 (Hina) – Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament, emphasized the importance of transparency in decision-making processes regarding European legislation during her visit to Zagreb on Friday for the inauguration of the multimedia center Experience Europe. She highlighted that it is essential for the European Parliament to make informed choices that benefit Croatian citizens.
This marks Metsola’s second official trip to Zagreb, coinciding with the launch of the Experience Europe multimedia center, designed to help citizens understand how European legislation influences their daily lives, the workings of EU institutions, and relevant European issues.
“Empowering citizens with knowledge translates to a stronger society and individuals,” Metsola stated to the audience comprising officials, citizens, and students. “That is why we aim to engage citizens in the European decision-making process.”
Supporting her sentiments, Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić-Radman highlighted the need for reliable information and analytical prowess as vital components for lasting peace in Europe.
“Peace, freedom, and progress are not solely reliant on military strength,” Grlić-Radman remarked, noting that the ongoing war in Ukraine serves as a reminder that security and stability should never be taken for granted.
Dubravka Šuica, the European Commission Commissioner for the Mediterranean, added that the EU’s focus is on “forecasting, resilience, and collective defense.” She emphasized the importance of collaboration with North Africa, the Middle East, and Gulf nations, stating, “The Mediterranean reflects our shared history, is relevant in the present, and will be crucial for our collective prosperity and future.” (March 28, 2025)
