Huawei Lobbyists Banned from EU Parliament Premises
Huawei had nine individuals authorized to access the European Parliament when it last updated its entry in the Transparency Register in October.
The newly imposed ban will restrict Huawei’s lobbyists from entering any of the Parliament’s premises, including locations in Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxembourg, and its liaison offices across EU member states.
On Thursday, police sealed two offices linked to parliamentary assistants as part of an ongoing investigation. Authorities have conducted raids at 21 locations across Brussels, Flanders, Wallonia, and Portugal. Several individuals have been arrested, according to prosecutors.
A spokesperson for the European Parliament did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Huawei also did not immediately issue a statement regarding the ban. However, in an earlier response, a company spokesperson said: “Huawei takes these allegations seriously and will urgently communicate with the investigation to further understand the situation.”
