Bratislava – As of the end of 2024, the European Commission (EC) has launched 67 infringement proceedings against Slovakia for breaches of common European legislation, primarily concerning the improper transposition or application of binding EU laws, according to TASR.
This information comes from the annual report on Slovakia’s EU membership for 2024, which the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MZVEZ) has submitted for interdepartmental review.
Of the 67 proceedings, 27 were initiated due to Slovakia’s failure to inform the EC about measures for transposing directives, 14 were due to inaccuracies in transposing directives, 18 resulted from the incorrect application of EU law, and eight were initiated for various other reasons.
In comparison to 2023, this marks an increase of eight proceedings against Slovakia. The ministry pointed out that “Slovakia ranks among the countries with a significant number of infringement proceedings under Articles 258 – 260 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.” (February 17)
