Stockholm – Sweden, along with six other nations, is calling on the EU to intensify its efforts against criminal networks. They are particularly urging the European Commission to explore ways to prevent the misuse of pyrotechnics in bomb-making.
The Swedish government is advocating for these measures due to the alarming number of recent explosions linked to bombs created from potent pyrotechnics sourced from other EU countries.
“My Dutch counterpart and I, who have both experienced the devastating effects of explosions, emphasized the necessity of stricter EU regulations regarding pyrotechnics,” stated Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer, following a meeting with representatives from the six countries in Cadiz, Spain, where the declaration was formalized.
The commission is also being urged to incorporate strategies to combat gang-related online recruitment of children and adolescents in the upcoming EU internal security plan.
Since 2024, Sweden has been part of a European coalition against organized crime, joining forces with Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Germany.
