Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has yet to speak with newly appointed U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, but he has already engaged with officials connected to the Trump administration to highlight Poland’s ambitious defense expansion.
“We can confidently demonstrate to the new Trump administration that we meet the two key conditions frequently emphasized by President Trump: the highest level of defense spending within NATO and strong economic ties benefiting American businesses,” Kosiniak-Kamysz stated.
He described this approach as “a kind of insurance policy.”
Amid concerns that Trump could scale back U.S. involvement in NATO and Europe, Kosiniak-Kamysz urged other European nations to follow Poland’s lead.
“Europe needs to invest more in security—not to replace the U.S. presence, but to ensure it remains,” he argued.
Another clear objective behind Poland’s extensive investment in tanks, air defense systems, artillery, and fighter jets is straightforward: to deter Russia.
