In a statement, Branko Radujko of the Serbian Football Federation emphasized that the upcoming European Under-21 Championship in 2027 will go beyond being just a football tournament. He described it as an opportunity to “show the world what is possible when people focus on a common goal, inspired by the power of football.”
Similarly, Armand Duko, President of the Albanian Football Association, highlighted the transformative potential of the event. He referred to it as “a catalyst for breaking down barriers, enhancing mutual understanding, and creating a more positive future for the people of Albania and Serbia.”
However, neither Radujko, Duko, nor UEFA addressed the controversial incidents that overshadowed Euro 2024, including racist chanting and nationalist banners.
The European Under-21 Championship, unlike the senior tournament held every four years, takes place biennially. For the 2027 tournament, Serbia and Albania submitted a joint bid – the only one – and were ultimately selected as hosts.
