At a press conference on Saturday, Babiš stated, “We are clearly pro-European and pro-NATO. The EU consists of 27 members. Ukraine is not a part of the EU. Our focus is on Europe, European citizens, energy prices, and the migration pact.”
Babiš, alongside Orbán, co-founded the far-right Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament. Members, such as Orbán and France’s Jordan Bardella, extended their congratulations to Babiš for his victory.
“Truth has prevailed! Andrej Babiš has triumphed in the Czech parliamentary elections with a significant lead,” Orbán stated in a post on X. “A significant move for the Czech Republic and positive news for Europe. Congratulations, Andrej!”
Babiš is currently awaiting a verdict from the Prague District Court on allegations of defrauding the EU out of €2 million. The case revolves around whether the “Stork’s Nest” farm was misrepresented to secure subsidies for medium-sized businesses. Unless new evidence emerges, the court may follow Prague’s High Court, which overturned a prior acquittal of Babiš.
There is a possibility that parliament’s lower chamber will vote on lifting Babiš’s parliamentary immunity.
