Public and Jury Select Winning Images of "Environment&Me 2025" Photo Competition

An aerial photo showcasing the contrast between cracked earth and turquoise waters at Burdur Lake, Türkiye, has won the Public Choice Award in the European Environment Agency’s (EEA) annual photo competition. Photos from Sweden and Spain took the thematic category prizes.

The EEA announced the winners of its 2025 “Environment&Me” photo competition today. Launched in March 2025, this contest invited photographers from Europe and neighboring countries to share images depicting their relationship with the environment.

Out of nearly 1,800 entries from 36 countries, the submissions were narrowed down to 42 finalists and four winners. Spain and Italy led with the highest participation rates, while Türkiye, Germany, and Portugal also contributed significantly.

The winners were chosen across three thematic categories, with an additional youth prize and a public choice award. External judges selected the category winners, while the public voted for the public choice award.

BLUE – Water & Me
Title: “Bridge over troubled water”
Once solid and timeless, the frozen sea in Bjärred, Sweden, now thins with each winter. This aerial photo of people crossing a bridge over fragile ice depicts the impact of climate change on landscapes.

GREEN – Nature & Me
Title: “King of hearts”
A grasshopper resting among heart-shaped leaves in Anella Verda de Terrassa, Spain, showcases nature’s delicate beauty.

ORANGE – Everyday Life & Me
Title: “Work commitment”
A donkey and its owners labour in the sun-scorched fields of Teguise, Spain, turning dust into hope through cooperation and perseverance.

Youth Prize (ages 18-24)
The Youth Prize was not awarded this year due to eligibility issues.

Public Choice Award
Title: “Flapping its wings against drought”
Selected by the public, this aerial photo highlights the contrast between dry earth and turquoise waters at Burdur Lake, Türkiye, with birds scattered across the scene, reflecting the area’s natural beauty amid drought.
