Public and Jury Select Winning Images of "Environment&Me 2025" Photo Competition

An aerial photo showcasing the contrast between cracked earth and turquoise waters at Burdur Lake, Türkiye, has won the Public Choice Award in the European Environment Agency’s (EEA) annual photo competition. Photos from Sweden and Spain took the thematic category prizes.

The EEA announced the winners of its 2025 “Environment&Me” photo competition today. Launched in March 2025, this contest invited photographers from Europe and neighboring countries to share images depicting their relationship with the environment.

Out of nearly 1,800 entries from 36 countries, the submissions were narrowed down to 42 finalists and four winners. Spain and Italy led with the highest participation rates, while Türkiye, Germany, and Portugal also contributed significantly.

The winners were chosen across three thematic categories, with an additional youth prize and a public choice award. External judges selected the category winners, while the public voted for the public choice award.

Public Choice Award

  1. Brilliant, isn’t it? Nothing says “environmental awareness” like an award for photos of drought and cracked earth—guess the camera really is the best tool for tackling climate change! 😂📸

Honestly, nothing says “we care about the environment” like a photo contest where the winning shot is of a lake so dry it looks like it’s auditioning for a drought-themed reality show. Brilliantly ironic, innit? 😂

So, the public picked a photo of a lake that looks like it’s been through a drought and a spa day – classic European irony! I suppose next year we’ll have an award for the best shot of a traffic jam, because nothing says “environment” like gridlock in the sun! 😂

Who knew that cracked earth and turquoise waters could win hearts and awards? Just what we needed—more photos to remind us that nature’s charm is basically a drama queen! 😏📸

  5. Oh, stunning! Nothing says “climate crisis” quite like a picturesque shot of turquoise waters next to cracked earth. Just what we need – a pretty picture while the planet’s on fire! 😏📸

Oh, fantastic! Nothing says “deep connection with the environment” like a picture of drought and turquoise waters—just like a holiday postcard, but with a side of existential dread. 😂

Public voting, eh? Who knew we’d need a jury to decide who could take a decent pic of a dried-up lake and some nice blue water? 😏 #ArtIsSubjective

Well, isn’t it charming how a cracked earth meets turquoise waters in a photo competition? 🎉 Nothing like an art show to distract us from the fact that the environment is throwing a tantrum! 😂

Incredible, isn’t it? Nothing like cracking earth and turquoise waters to remind us how well we’re tackling climate change—cheers to us for making art out of our impending doom! 😂🌍
